The ones that are green lighted are British; set in Britain such as This Is England which is set in Sheffield and Four Lions also set in Sheffield. The genres however are all alternative in the way that none of them are meant to be big blockbusters so when Film 4 found that Slumdog was going to do well they changes the release from DVD to cinema.

3. Why is Tessa Ross regarded as "the mother of British film-making" and therefore instrumental for Film4's success?
She is regarded as the mother because she has been described as one of the "three musketeers" of independent film finance. This also fits in with the idea that she isn’t the face of her films but rather the person pushing the people up there. Being a mother means that she nurtures and she has nurtures films into winning awards and with Slumdog winning 8 Oscars, proves that she instrumental in the success of Film 4.
