Magazine Front Cover & Contents Page

FRONT COVER

CONTENTS PAGE

Post Production of Magazine

I then chose my 4 photos, 1 for the main "Front Cover",which was the one of Georges mid shot, page and 3 for the "Contents Page", i started by cutting out all the photos from their backgrounds using a magnetic lasso tool in  Photoshop. Next i started work on the "Front Cover". I decided to use red and black for the text, i didn't add in a third colour because i thought with the colour on Georges top it would be too hectic. I also tried to use the same red that was on Georges top for the masthead so it made the magazine look professional as well as enhancing the link between George and the magazine. when adding text i firstly did the masthead as using font "Helvetica" which then carried  out throughout the rest of the pages, i chose this font as it is a very striking font yet still easy to read. I added  a different colour background colour that was still subtle so not to distract from the main subject and text of the magazine. And finally i enhanced the photo of George by taking away the shine in his glasses and any moles or spots and making his t-shirt brighter so it stood out.

For the "Contents Page" firstly i added a soft grey background and i mainly used texts of different sizes to add character to the page, i chose to use the same green as the one in the school logo in the photo i took to try and make the page as professional as i could. i added the three photos, again cutting them out using the magnetic lasso tool and enhancing them slightly, on the contents page to finish. But the last thing i did was add a page number to the contents page.

Production of Magazine

For making my magazine i started to take photos. These had to be a medium shot for the front page and could be other ones for the contents page. I took a main one of George for the "Front Cover" and several more smaller ones of things that are in the magazine (the schools logo) for the "Contents Page" we then uploaded them as a group to a computer and emailed the photos to everyone in out group so we could start putting the pages together.

Continuity Prelim

This is mine, George Hextall and Ollie Wrights continuity video.

Magazine Brief and Pre-Production

For our magazine prelim we had a brief that we had to create a magazine front cover and contents page that was suitable for the school. the front cover had to have a mid shot of a person a masthead and a couple of snaps of information. it also needed a barcode. the contents page needed further photos and what is going to be in the magazine and what page their going to be on. we then designed the pages on paper and add the details to it so it was easier when we took the photos.

I like the front cover of this magazine because it uses a bold and in your face fount and colour. i also like how the picture draws you in because if how big it is. What i also think is good about it and i want to replicate in my magazine id the simplistic style of it, there is little text on the front cover and the text that is on there only relates to the image.

Production

After pre production we were given another groups story board to film, this allowed us to see what other peoples story boards were like, it also meant that we could learn for in the future how to improve our own story boards. i found out that to make the filming as easy as possible you need to give clear but detailed instructions. with the story board we were given it was at some points difficult to follow the groups ideas because they hadn't explained well enough how they wanted their props to be used, we had to use our own initiative to make the story flow. They had also not put their frames in order but that wasn't too mush of a problem because they had numbered them correctly.

Pre Production

For the film we split the film up into 4 sections one for each of, i had the section when the character is walking toward the door. My first frame was of the character walking towards the door, i used a long shot as the camera angle. the next frame is of a point of view shot from his feet looking up at his face (again walking towards the camera. The third shot is a shot using an over the shoulder camera angle with the character walking closer to the door. The last shot for me was the close up one of the characters hand on the handle. We decided as a group that we would cut the sound out for the start (up until the door closes behind the character) and add a piece of music.

Hot Fuzz Opening Analysis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JLEbh4Cn0c

The first shot of “Hot Fuzz” is of Nicholas Angel walking towards the camera. He is centered so that our focus is on him showing he is the most important character in this scene. The doors also open for him even though he is far away as if they anticipate his arrival. We yet don't know who he is because there is a bright light from behind him making him a silhouette, not only does this light make him more of a mysterious man is also makes him seem an angel because the light has resemblances to a halo. Not only does he walk towards the camera the camera also zooms on him emphasizing that he is the most important here. He also walks straight and directly forward showing he is a man that knows what he wants. We could also suggest he is determined because he is the only one in a large what seems entrance, this could be telling us that its a day that not many people work and he has chosen of his own accord to com in.

The sound of this part of the film is cold and clean the only sound made is of his footsteps getting louder and louder as he walks towards the camera, creating the assumption that he has authority and backs up my previous thought that he is alone in this entrance.
At the end of the first shot is a close up of his face, we see that he has a stern face, projecting the thought that he doesn't want any hassle.

There is then a close up of his police id card, this is when we first see that his name is Nicholas Angel, Angel has connotations with good but then Nicholas can be shortened to Nick and that has connotations of bad and the police. Put together both these names contradict each other. This can tell us that maybe as a person Nicholas Angel has duel personalities (maybe a good and a bad side). The picture on his id is the same as his face which could offer the thought he is always in a state of angriness and always on duty.

The next scene is of him walking again but the camera is looking straight ahead at his feet this time, it then changes to a camera looking up at him, this shows and suggest he is more important than the rest of them. He also has the stern look on his face from the previous scene. In this scene he is also surrounded  by vertical bars which have an association with jail.

5C's

In film there are 5 main things to look for begining with C, these are;
Camera Angles - these include long shot, close up, over the shoulder, and extreme close up.
this is an example of a long shot, it shows allot of something but no detail in it.

this is an example of a close up you can see allot of detail but not much of the surrounding.

this is an example of a over the shoulder shot, you see the scene from the point of view of a character

this is an example of an extreme close up, hear you see that there is allot of detail and you see nothing of the surrounding area.

Continuity - Generally refers to visual errors. In very basic terms it means having a character in a red top one second then in a blue top the next.

Cutting - also known as editing, this is essential otherwise the film would never end. It also allows the director to use multiple locations. Its main use is to change the pace of a film weather to speed it up or slow it down.

Close-ups

Composition - this is what is in the scene from the character right down to a plant plot even though you don't think that it means much everything has been put there for a reason, it is also called mise-en-scene

Hello

Good Day, i chose to commence with the class of Media Studies because i enjoy the films. Specific films i enjoy is ones like Step brothers and Superbad. This is because i enjoy the comedy genre in films. An actor that i like is Jim Carrey i think that he makes a character his own and add extra comedy to the film roles he plays. I particularly like him in the Ace Ventura films because of the witty one liners that he does. I don't just like films but i do prefer them, i do listen to music but i don't really have a specific genre or artist that i stick to. I don't know wether this comes into media but i like the books by Dan Brown my favourite being "Deception Point".
